Throwback Thursday - Stromae, "Cheese" (2010)

How old does something have to be to get a #TBT? 7 years seems like a reasonable start to me – and unbelievably, Stromae's debut album Cheese is 7 years old. While Stromae is by no means a household name amongst English-speaking listeners, it's rather easy to feel he should be! Cheese could hardly be described as timeless (unmistakably modern as it is) but the album will almost certainly never sound old, and should continue to entertain for the rest of time as far as I'm concerned. Whether you can understand the French lyrics or not, his tracks are the ultimate in catch, with the album spawning numerous earworms that will keep you up at night even years after the first listen. The jaunty electro lines of “Te Quiero” and “Alors On Dance” are certainly the worst culprits for inducing “one-more-play” syndrome, but “Rail de Musique” and the instrumental track “Silence” can be just as addictive as the album's lead singles. It's the combination of wonderfully-chosen tunes with Stromae's outstanding production that really leads Cheese to sounding eternally new and eternally fresh. If you haven't already, now is your cue to go and listen – if you're already a fan, today's the day to raise a fuss about this fantastic album once again!
